Jr. High

                                                 Mrs. Welder

School starts at 8:30 and ends at 3:30. Please have your student at school between 8:15 and 8:25. This gives them time to put their belongings away and gear up for the day. Late arrivals affect not only the late student but their classmates, too. Please be prompt.

Proper Carden uniform is required at all times. Monday thru Thursday is regular dress, and Friday is formal dress. Please make sure your student is appropriately dressed for the day.

Jr. High students are required to wear P.E. clothes. P.E. will be on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Please make sure your child has a P.E. bag labeled with their name and the correct P.E. attire. Designated P.E. tennis-shoes are desired, as often when the children are outside their shoes get muddy and/or grassy. If your child forgets their P.E. clothes, they will not be able to participate with the rest of the class.

A packet of your child’s work will be sent home on Fridays. Please look over the packet, sign it, and send it back with your child on Monday. This packet allows you to see how your child is doing in class. If at any time you have questions/concerns about your child’s work, please feel free to contact me.

As we have a large number of students with food allergies, if you are planning to bring treats for a birthday/special occasion, please let me know what you plan to bring and food ingredients. This practice helps ensure all of our students are safe.

If your child is sick, please keep them at home. A child who is running a fever should stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever subsides. A child should also be symptom free from any flu symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.

Reading is an important skill to enhance, please encourage your child to read at least 30 minutes a night. We will have book reports/projects every other month. Books used for book reports are read on the student’s own time and can be used toward nightly reading time. I will assign a genre for the book report, and the student will be required to read a book that follows the theme. The book also needs to be read during the allotted time; it cannot be a book your child read in the past.

Often there will be time to finish all the work during the school day; however, if your child does not finish his/her work, he/she will have homework. Students are required to finish their work by the given due date; unless other arrangements have been made. If you have any questions about typical homework please let me know.

Your student will be required to keep a weekly assignment sheet, so they can keep track of their assignments. The structure of the Jr. High is different than the lower grades, which will take some getting used to. Please be involved! Ask your child when things are due and what they are doing. Organization is a learned skill. We will work on organizational skills in the classroom, but they will need help at home, too. For some such processes come naturally; for others it is a more difficult task.

Vocabulary is empowering. Help incorporate your child’s new vocabulary into their daily lives.
